What should be done if the excavator engine overheats in the scorching summer?
Jun 16, 2025
When it comes to the maintenance of excavators in summer, the most common issue is excessively high water temperature. So, how exactly can this be resolved? The following mainly discusses how to diagnose and eliminate faults in excavator engines.
I. "Look"
If you find that the engine temperature is too high or the temperature indicator light keeps flashing, stop the vehicle to check if the cooling water in the radiator is normal and if there is any leakage at the radiator, water pipes and all joints. If the water volume is insufficient, add water in time to avoid burning out the machine. If no abnormalities are found through external inspection, you can replenish the cooling water as required and then continue working. If after working for a period of time, the temperature is still found to be too high, and when the machine is stopped for inspection, it is found that the cooling water has decreased significantly, this is mostly due to sand holes or perforations in the water jacket of the cylinder block causing water loss. After discovering this fault, it should be repaired. Do not take it lightly.
Ii. "Touch"
When the engine temperature is too high, you can touch the temperature of the upper and lower water pipes with your hand to determine the location of the fault. If the temperature difference between the two water pipes is very large, it can be judged that the thermostat is not working. A new thermostat needs to be replaced. If the spare parts are not available for purchase temporarily, the thermostat can be removed as an emergency measure. Replace it immediately when a spare part is available.
